Thailand has started a three-day trade fair here on Friday. The exhibition, organised by the Thai Trade Centre, a representative department of export promotion (DEP) of Thailand, was inaugurated by the Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala.

Addressing newspersons on the occasion, the Thai Trade Centre Consul (Commercial) and Director, Mr Prakob Panjacharoensiri, said the role of DEP was primarily to promote the growth of exports of Thai products and services to other countries by getting into close cooperation and relations with the local traders.

"We are looking for friendship, trade and business alliances with Indians. This is the first event for Thailand Exhibition in Hyderabad and we are looking at follow up of FTA policy to reach the target of $ 2,000 million. Apart from promoting our trade and services to Indians, we want to introduce our unique products and services to Indian customers at their doorsteps," Mr Prakob said.

According to him, 49 companies representing 10 product sectors were currently participating in the Thailand Exhibition at the HITEX Grounds here. These participating Thai companies would be looking for tie-ups with importers, distributors and retailers in India, who would import their products to sell in the Indian market subsequently.

"With a display of wide range of products and services ranging from fashion clothing to food and furniture, Thailand's international trade fairs draw business people from all corners of the globe. The statistics of over one million visitors to these trade fairs simply speaks for itself," he said.

Mr Barnala said the two countries by signing a FTA have taken a great step towards developing economic prosperity and strengthen the trade relations between the two countries. "It is our endeavour to boost the bilateral trade relations between India and Thailand and see that the trade between the two countries grow steadily year after year."
