Markets - Stock Markets

You'll miss 100 pc of the shots you never take

The refrain that filters through offices is Ganpati Bappa Moraya, but after helping himself to a generous dose of modaks, Dakshinamoorthy lumbers to his PC to chat about markets with Sridevi, Jogin and Khan. Don't doze off!

Dax: Inflation rate declining! Positive for

market sentiment.

Sri: Chart patterns point to a continuation of bullish

run. :-)

Kay: But end of the week would be crucial. Selling

pressures muted for now.

Jog: I know why! Investors and traders may prefer to wait

till month end as favourable capital gains tax proposals

are likely to take effect in October.

Sri: Hey, know what did Vivek Paul of Wipro do in US?

Plans to sell 2 lakh shares!

Kay: Hmmm... Chart patterns

suggest continuation of bull-run

in quite a few mid-cap stocks.

Jog: I'm watching Tata Metalliks,

Motherson Sumi, Jyoti

Structures, Corp Bank, Eicher

Motors, Glaxo Consumer

Healthcare, City Union Bank and

Tata Telecom.

Dax: During cocktail, I heard that

an NRI outfit inked MoU

with WBIDC to set up a Bank of Bengal.

Jog: Case of vanishing company before it started, though

some big names are in the middle! :-(

Sri: FIIs are buying a lot here. I asked them, and they say,

"Can you guess why?"

Kay: Sri, ask no questions and be told no lies! Better track

the merger story of BSNL and MTNL. Sentiment strong

for MTNL! Bharti Tele is unlikely to see a repeat of the

previous week.

Dax: Bharti was a top gainer last week in Sensex 30! With

BSNL and MTNL slated to merge, it may face tougher

competition. Besides, news from regulator side is

not positive.

Jog: True, TRAI's proposal to clamp down on roaming

rates is a dampener for Bharti stock.

Sri: I heard in Howrah Station that Organon sold off its

second factory at Ganganagar, north 24 Parganas district

to the APJ group. Is that marketing myopia?

Kay: MNCs have been approaching Indian Institute of

Chemical Biology to fund research on herbals with an eye

to get the successful drug patented within five years!

Investment chemistry or mystery?

Sri: Why's nothing happening on TV?

Dax: Because Mumbai High Court's view that no bidder

fulfils eligibility norms of BCCI leaves cricket telecast

rights in greater uncertainty.

Jog: Possibility of fresh bidding could affect sentiment

towards the Zee Telefilms stock.

Kay: Here's a Wayne Gretzky quote on risk: "You'll miss

100 per cent of the shots you never take."

Jog: Let me take one shot: I guess it could be risky

trusting you, Kay! LOL
