Fiat to Kerala farm credit co-ops

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Registrar, Cooperatives, has directed all primary agriculture credit cooperative societies (PACS) in the State to ensure that they disburse as agricultural credit an amount aggregating to not less than 25 per cent of the total credit advanced during the course of the year.

An official spokesman quoted the Registrar as saying that agricultural credit can be offered even against gold pledged with the society. But, the interest charged should not exceed that applicable for short-term agricultural credit prevailing from time to time.

The PACS have further been directed that the refinance availed from district banks at cheaper rates should be used for disbursing agricultural credit to the maximum possible extent.
