Rubber prices remain firm

DOMESTIC rubber prices remained firm on Friday. Though the covering groups were rather inactive, enquiries from other sectors helped the market sustain at current levels.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed at Rs 51 a kg, against Rs 50.50 on Thursday. While RSS 5 and latex were steady, ungraded and ISNR 20 inched up on purchases from the general rubber goods sector and north Indian buyers.

The futures market appeared steady quoting the near-month October delivery at Rs 53.01(53) a kg.

November delivery was quoted at Rs 53.61 (53.45), December delivery at Rs 53.84 (53.84) and January delivery at Rs 54.79(54.74) a kg for RSS 4.

The market opened slightly better but corrected towards mid-session on profit booking.

At TOCOM, October futures for RSS 3 weakened to 139 yen a kg from 139.2 yen on Wednesday. At Bangkok, RSS 3 was steady at Rs 57.44 a kg as on Thursday.

The spot market rates per kg on Friday were as follows: RSS 4 51 (50.50), RSS 5 49.50 (49.50), Ungraded 48 (47.75), ISNR 20 49 (48.50), Latex 60 per cent 38.50 (38.50).
