Poultry AP ranks third in chicken consumption Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Sept. 24 ANDHRA Pradesh stands third in the country, after Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in chicken consumption and Bromark (the All-India Broiler Farmers' Marketing Co-operative Ltd) is holding chicken melas in different parts of the State to boost consumption, the Head of the co-operative, Mr A.B.K. Reddy, has said. At a press meet here on Friday, Mr Reddy said that the per-capita consumption of chicken in the State was 3.75 kg, much higher than the national average of 1.65 kg per head, but still there was an immense scope for improvement. ``It is our endeavour to increase consumption by making the public aware of the nutritional value of the products and by making it available at affordable prices at our outlets,'' he said. There were 750 Bromark outlets in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, 40 in Vijayawada, 30 in Visakhapatnam, 20 in Warangal, 20 in Khammam, 22 in Kurnool, 15 in Guntur and 10 in Rajahmundry, he said. Outside the State, there were 82 outlets in Pune, 30 in Mumbai and 10 in Bangalore. "We will soon open centres in Coimbatore and Chandigarh. It is our aim to take the number of outlets to 2,000 in the country in a span of one or two years, with half of them in Andhra Pradesh,'' he said. Only Vencobb chicken, of the best breed, would be sold in these centres. A chicken mela would be organised here at Hotel Dasapalla on Sunday and the participants would be given prizes, Mr Reddy said and urged women to participate in large numbers.
