Chennai , Sept. 24

WIPRO Corporation has sought 85 acres of additional land adjacent to its existing facility on the Old Mahabalipuram Road at Sholinganallur. The Government is in the process of earmarking the land, according to Mr Vivek Harinarain, Tamil Nadu IT Secretary.

Mr Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman, during his recent visit here, had requested the Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, for additional land, Mr Harinarain told Business Line.

The company has a software development centre at Sholinganallur that is spread over 15 acres.

The additional land to Wipro would be part of the Knowledge Industry Township that the Government is planning on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, the IT corridor. In the first phase about 500 acres of land would be used for the township, he said.
