Hyderabad , Sept. 28

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has appointed a 20-member monitoring committee to supervise the talks between the Government and CPI (ML) (People's War).

The committee comprises civil rights activists, senior journalists, academicians and judicial experts.

Announcing this here on Tuesday, Mr K. Jana Reddy, Home Minister, said the committee would keep an eye on the conduct of the two sides during the talks process.

The 20-member panel included Mr K. Balagopal (Convener of Human Rights Forum); Mr C. Raghavachari (former Editor of Visalandhra); Prof G. Haragopal (Hyderabad Central University); Mr V. Hanumantha Rao (senior journalist and Peace Initiative Committee leader), and Mr Zahid Ali Khan (Editor of Siasat).

The Home Minister said the Government would soon announce a team to represent it in the talks with People's War (PW).

Reiterating the Government stand that it would not allow the Naxalites to move in the villages carrying arms, he said cases would be booked if they did so.

Asked about former Chief Minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu's criticism on allowing them (Naxalites) for talks with arms, the Minister said the allegation was not based on truth.

"Nowhere we said that we will allow them to carry arms. He'd better check the facts before making such allegations," the Home Minister said.
