CGS India scouting for acquisitions

Bangalore Sept. 29

THE US-based software products and services firm, Computer Generated Solutions Inc (CGS), is expanding its India operations and is looking at acquiring a small IT firm.

The company is also planning to set up its tech support operations in India to cater to its clients in the Asia-Pacific region, said Mr Phil Friedman, President and CEO, CGS Inc.

"We see a major opportunity in moving both our software development and tech support work to India," Mr Friedman said. CGS offers tech support services to several of the large technology companies such as IBM and Dell among others, he said adding the company will either open a facility in India or partner with an existing player to offer tech support services to its customers in the Asia Pacific region.

CGS India, at present, has an offshore development centre in Hyderabad supporting US operations, with some 35 people.

Mr Ram Mohan Vedantam, Country Manager and Managing Director, CGS India, said the company was looking at IT firms with a team of around 100 people in the application development and maintenance space.

"We have identified about 6-7 potential targets and have initiated talks with a couple of them," Mr Vedantam said.

"We are looking at building a team of 150-200 people in the application development and maintenance of software over the next six months," he said.
