Kolkata , Sept. 30

USHACOMM the London-headquartered, telecom software solutions company promoted by the Usha Martin group, on Thursday announced a strategic technology alliance with the $ 12-billion turnover global network computing major Sun Microsystems.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Malcolm Lewis, Executive Vice-President (Product Management and Marketing) of UshaComm, said the tie-up would draw from synergies of the two companies and facilitate the development of "cost-effective, robust and future-rich billing and customer care products for communications services providers."

Mr Lewis said Sun Microsystems would provide the intelligence and technical support to help UshaComm to fine-tune solutions with a view to ensuring that the latter's clients benefit from software solutions that offer greater value through total lower cost of ownership.

Over time, the UshaComm and Sun Microsystems alliance would evolve to incorporate global and co-marketing alliances. The two partners have agreed to execute reference architectures for telecom applications.

According to him, all the software development work of UshaComm is done at the company's development centre located in Kolkata. In anticipation of business growth, the strength of the developer workforce here would be augmented from around 350 to 550 by December 2005, Mr Lewis said. He, however, declined to comment on the volume of incremental business that would be generated by virtue of the tie-up with Sun Microsystems.
