Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 4 CAPEXIL, formerly known as Chemicals and Allied Products Export Promotion Council, has selected the public sector Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (KMML) for the Special Export Award based on its export performance during 2003-04. KMML, a major producer of titanium dioxide pigment, started exports in 2000-01 by selling 52 tonnes of its products in the international market. As the marketing efforts of the company gradually gained momentum, exports have now peaked to 7,286 tonnes to 23 countries, an official spokesman said here. The client list straddles the swathe from the West to the Far East, covering countries such as the US, the UK, the UAE, Italy, Turkey, Iran, Denmark, the Netherlands, South Africa, South Korea, China and Australia. KMML products have been able to achieve universal acceptance, with exports picking up during the first six months of this financial year. Exports from April to September amount to 4,588 tonnes and the company is targeting to raise this to 10,000 tonnes by the end of the financial year. Breaks record: KMML has reported an impressive performance for the first half year of the financial year, the spokesman said. It posted an all-time best monthly sales figure of 3,934 tonnes of titanium dioxide pigment during September. The half-yearly sales touched a record 15,240 tonnes during this period, compared to 14,489 tonnes during the corresponding period in the previous year. This unit reported a production of 26,004 tonnes of ilmenite and 874 tonnes of zircon during the period against 24,672 tonnes and 763 tonnes respectively during the corresponding period the previous year, the spokesman said.
