Strategy Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Variety - Sports AIR to sell rights of Australia-India series to ABC Nithya Subramanian
New Delhi , Oct. 5 Prasar Bharati has decided to sell the radio rights to the Australia-India series to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for $20,000. The organisation's officials said that ABC is also a public service broadcaster and the matches have been offered at a low rate keeping that in mind. "The radio channel does not take advertisements and since ABC is their pubcaster, we decided to keep the price low," said an official. Along with this, Prasar Bharati has also decided to offer match updates to another Australian radio company Natalie as well as BBC Radio for $4,000 each. As part of the radio deal, AIR will keep 15 per cent of the fee, while the remaining will be shared with the BCCI. Besides this, All India Radio is also expecting to generate revenues through advertisers. AIR is expected to generate about Rs 1 crore revenue from marketing the seven matches to be played when Australia and South Africa play India. A 10-second spot on the radio channel is being sold for Rs 5,000 and most of the advertisers are similar to the ones advertising on television.
