Chennai , Oct. 7

THE strike by workmen of Ashok Leyland's Hosur-I unit, which also produces most of the engines needed by the company, has hit production.

Production of vehicles in September was 3,854 units compared with 4,549 in September last year and 4,226 vehicles in August 2004. However, sales were affected less acutely because the company had an inventory of finished stock.

Overall, the company sold 4,619 vehicles in September compared with 4,604 in the same month of last year.

In the period between April and September, Ashok Leyland sold 23,582 vehicles compared with 20,349 in the same period of 2003.
