HSBC `Helping Hands Mela'

Our Bureau

Kochi , Oct. 13

HSBC is organising `Helping Hands Mela 2004' in Kochi to bring non-governmental organisations into its premises to sell their products. The event, which is scheduled to end on October 16, is part of a national programme spread across all HSBC branches in the country.

During the mela, HSBC will invite local NGOs to come to their branches and display their products, arts, crafts and designs.

It gives NGOs and communities an opportunity to sell their products at prime HSBC locations to HSBC customers as well as to the general public, a press release issued here said. The proceeds of the sale will go towards supporting a charitable cause in communities where the NGO has a presence.

Across the country, over 50 NGOs are expected to participate in the mela with community work profiles ranging from child welfare, tribal development, welfare of the physically and mentally challenged, rural development and arts and crafts development.

Over and above Kochi, 29 HSBC branches across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata among others, and group companies such as HSBC Software Development and HSBC Electronic Processing will participate in the mela.

Branches in Maharashtra are expected to witness some disruptions in the participation to the mela due to the State elections that are in progress.

HSBC appealed to all its customers and the general public to make Helping Hands mela a huge success by contributing in the maximum manner possible to the welfare of communities, by purchasing products displayed at the mela.

The event could also facilitate an interaction between the NGOs and the general public.
