RELIANCE Energy Ltd said it has been awarded a Rs 2,097-crore engineering procurement and construction contract to build a 600-MW thermal power station for Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd.

The foundation stone for the project was laid by Mr Om Prakash Chautala, Haryana Chief Minister, on Wednesday, a news release said. REL's engineering, procurement and construction arm will set up two 300 MW units at the site.

The first project would be commissioned in two phases, with the first unit of 300 MW coming up by March 30, 2007. The second would be commissioned by June 30, 2007.

REL's EPC division has orders in hand worth Rs 4,000 crore, the release said.
