EAGER-BEAVERS: Job aspirants await their turn at The Hindu Opportunities Fair in Chennai on Friday. — Bijoy Ghosh

Chennai , Oct. 15

THE Hindu Opportunities Fair, which opened on Friday in the city, was a big draw, with over 50,000 job seekers having registered themselves for meeting with potential employers.

Today — the first day of the three-day event — the Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Centre at MRC Nagar was the scene of a large crowd of candidates who had registered themselves online and were waiting for an opportunity to meet some of the 30-odd recruiting organisations from IT, ITES, BPO, insurance, manufacturing and logistics sectors. About 15,000 candidates came on Friday.

The event also featured an `industry interface' where representatives of recruiting companies had an opportunity to interact with leading HR managers from five top manpower-intensive companies — Sutherland Global, e-Serve, Royal Sundaram, Cognizant Technology and Vision Healthsource. The panel discussed topics such as attracting and retaining talent and dealing with problems like `bad hire'.

On Saturday, there will be another seminar `Employability', which registered job seekers may attend. The seminar will cover three key aspects — as how to write a resume, how to conduct oneself in an interview and how to take part in a group discussion.
