Mangalore , Oct. 17

THE Corporation Bank Chair in Bank Management, Mangalore University, has come out with a book on `World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Banking Sector in India.'

A press release by Prof G.V. Joshi, Coordinator of the chair, said that the Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, Mr Cherian Varghese, would release the book at the university on Monday. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof B. Hanumaiah, will preside over the function.

Prof Joshi said the book is the compilation of papers presented at a seminar on `WTO and Banking Sector in India' organised on February 16 and 17.

He said the volume proves that a strong, responsive, innovative and transparent banking system is critical for creating a market-driven, productive and competitive economy.

The papers published here throw light on the challenges and opportunities for the Indian banking sector in the WTO era, problems associated with financing the vital sectors of the economy, and the future of banking in India, he added.
