Mangalore , Oct. 17

THE Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, Mr Cherian Varghese, has said that the bank believes in being a "change agent" in the development of the city.

He was speaking after inaugurating a road divider, set up by the bank, in front of St Agnes education institution in Mangalore on Saturday.

He said the bank took up the road divider project following a letter by a local resident expressing concern over the difficulties faced by children in crossing the road in front of the institution.

The bank believes in being responsive to social causes, he said.

Citing the instances of malaria deaths in the city, he said, "In this modern age we cannot be proud of a city where people die of malaria."

He said that awareness should be created to control malaria.

On the increase in the number of houseflies in the city, he said it should disturb the collective consciousness of the people .

Mr Varghese said that the bank was ready to extend help to tackle such problems.
