Oilseeds & Edible Oil SOPA prunes crop output to 72 lakh t Our Bureau
Mumbai , Oct. 19 THE Indore-based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has pruned the soyabean crop estimate by 1.038 lakh tonnes at 72.078 lakh tonnes (lt) for this season from the initial estimate of 73.12 lt. The main reason for downsizing is that the yield in Madhya Pradesh, is expected to decline to 923 kg a hectare from the initial 950 kg, according to a SOPA release. However, the total area under soyabean, as per the latest estimate, is expected to remain at 74.534 lakh hectares. After the first estimate, some of SOPA members were apprehensive that productivity in the crop sown later could be less and therefore, the second survey was carried out. In Madhya Pradesh, the crop is now estimated at 41.029 lt from 42.202 lt. In Maharashtra, it is expected to be at 23.668 lt (first estimate 23.061 lt). Production in Rajasthan is estimated to be 4.534 lt (5.006 lt). SOPA sent three teams to carry out field survey and obtain feedback from farmers. The teams also surveyed standing crop, according to the release.
