New Delhi , Oct. 27

THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday asked the Ministry of Heavy Industries to come out with papers on specific proposals in 10 areas, including corporate governance, purchase preferences, research and development and quality for public sector companies.

Briefing reporters after the CCEA meeting, the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, said the proposal was aimed at undertaking financial and physical review of central public sector undertakings. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to revise the provisions on liquidated damages (LDs) and incentives in project contracts.

The CCEA deferred the decision on raising petrol and diesel prices by Rs 1.60 a litre and Rs 0.65 a litre respectively. "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has deferred the decision on a package on pricing and distribution of sensitive petroleum products, as the Petroleum Minister was not present," said Mr Chidambaram.
