Hyderabad , Nov. 2 THE Victoria Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Ms Marsha Thomson, has said Victoria could serve as a global hub for the region as Indian companies seek to further consolidate their operations. Touring India with a high-powered delegation comprising technology companies and representatives from several universities of Victoria, is aimed at strengthening Indian and Victorian business ties, particularly in the ICT sector, and building long-term relationships and encouraging new ventures. Ms Thomson, during her recent visit to Hyderabad, spoke to Business Line about her mission in India and the potential for mutual cooperation. Touring Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore, with about 30 plus Victorian companies, and some of them set to participate in the Bangalore IT.Com, Ms Thomson met with officials of the EXIM Bank to invite them to invest and facilitate more investments in Victoria on one side and enable some companies from Victoria to explore opportunities in India. Ms Thomson said: "Victoria is at the centre of the Australian ICT innovation with leading research institutions, incubators and technology companies and a strong culture of innovation with more than 45 per cent of the R&D expenditure from Australia's leading companies. Recognising the advantages of technology, the Government of Victoria has embarked on a process to enter into strategic alliances between Australian and Indian ICT companies." "This early initiative has resulted in several large Indian IT companies locating their global development centres in Victoria. That is why we are delighted to have eight of the top 15 Nasscom companies based in Victoria which include Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam, Patni among others," she said. "Telecommunications, ICT manufacturing and infotainment are among key areas of growth. We have also signed up with the India Merchant Chamber to explore opportunities for new areas of business and mutual cooperation."
