10-digit numbers for Mumbai RIM customers

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 2

RELIANCE Infocomm has begun migrating its Mumbai Reliance IndiaMobile (RIM) subscribers to a 10-digit number series beginning with the numerals 93.

"This has been done in keeping with the cellular mobile numbering plan in India under the new unified licence regime, and comes close on the heels of the successful implementation of migration to 93 in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat," said a company release.

The migration to 93 series is already under way in the rest of Maharashtra, it added.

With this, all calls from any phone in Mumbai to a RIM phone in the circle will be like local calls and can be dialled without prefixing the number with the STD code.

"Migration to the new 93-series is being done in a phased manner across the country. All our RIM subscribers will soon have new 10-digit numbers. To make this transition convenient for our subscribers, we have ensured that they will continue to receive messages and calls to their old numbers till November 30," said Mr Inder Bajaj, Head (Special Projects).

Subscribers are being proactively advised about their new 10-digit numbers through telephonic calls and messages, apart from the mailers and press advertisements.

Information on this is also being made available through automated enquiry numbers and www.relianceinfo.com.
