LIC field workers stir

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Federation of Insurance Field Workers of India (NFIFWI), the organisation of Development Officers of the LIC of India, observed a strike and staged sit-ins on Wednesday to protest against management policies and a circular on an incentive scheme.

According to Mr K. Venkatesh, General Secretary, NFIFWI, the management had chosen to turn its back on the "marketing force" by withdrawing payment of all functional expenses to the cadre. It has also chosen to slash all incentive payments, which include developmental and marketing expenses that have been part of the salary.

These have served to kill the initiative, goodwill and motivation of the marketing force. The steep downslide in existing incomes is not going to encourage members to bring in more business; on the other hand, it will only hamper the developmental activities for the future, Mr Venkatesh said.
