Bangalore , Nov. 7 THE Karnataka Government would convene a core group meeting within 15 days to resolve the issues raised by plantation industry that has sought tax reliefs and interest waiver among other things. The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr Dharam Singh, after hearing the issues raised by the Karnataka Planters Association (KPA) at its 46th annual conference on Saturday said the meeting would be attended by the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Mr Siddaramaiah, Government officials concerned and representatives of the plantation industry. The Government would give a "sympathetic consideration" to the requests made by the KPA. The Union Minister of State for Planning, Mr M.V. Rajashekaran, suggested that the growers focus on producing quality coffee even while compressing the production costs. Assuring the growers that the Government was with them, Mr Rajashekaran said, "The Planning Commission would look at appropriate policy measures needed to support the industry going forward." The plantation industry among other things has sought reduction in agricultural income tax, abolition of purchase tax and waiver of interests on the loans taken by the growers from the co-operative banks.
