Mumbai , Nov. 18

TATA Indicom has introduced prepaid recharge cards for its Fixed Wireless Phone, Walky.

The company said the cards offered a tariff of 90 paise per pulse, which is lower than landline rates, as well as what the company said are the lowest available STD rates in the country, at Rs. 1.80 per minute.

The effective entry cost for prepaid Walky is Rs 3,150 which includes a refundable security deposit of Rs. 1000 and two recharge vouchers of Rs 550 each, said Tata Teleservices in a news release on Thursday.

In addition, the latest prepaid offering on Walky has a daily fixed fee of Rs 2.50.

Calls to the UK, US and Canada will cost Rs 5.40 per minute.

The prepaid on Walky is available on the Axesstel and LG instruments. The prepaid recharge cards are available in two denominations - Rs 330 and Rs 550.

"Our customers will benefit with the lowest tariffs in the market, saving up to 25 per cent in usage," said Mr Amit Bose, President, Telecom, Tata Teleservices.

The launch of Walky in new markets is backed by the great success of the concept in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, said the release.

Tata Indicom Walky has already registered over 300 per cent growth in the global market fixed wireless customer base since January 2003, and continued to be the market leader, said the release. The launch of prepaid on Walky is expected to further boost this growth.
