New Delhi , Nov. 24 INFOTECH majors Oracle and Dell have extended an eight-year old global alliance to India, whereby the two companies will provide a common point-of-contact for all computing requirements. The partnership is expected to make it easier and more affordable for customers in India to deploy Oracle products on Dell servers running on Linux. Mr Dinesh Pai, General Manager, Dell India, said, "Our growing partnership with Oracle reflects our customers' increasing demand and preference for a one-stop solution and a single point-of-contact. The extension of this partnership in India today further demonstrates our mutual commitment to deliver fully-integrated enterprises solutions that can scale to meet customers' future business requirements, while delivering low total cost of ownership." Under the bilateral agreement, Dell will rely on its strength in direct sales to provide customers in India with enterprise solutions, integrating both hardware and software. To achieve the goal, both companies have put in place dedicated teams to collaboratively carry out activities including cross training, joint marketing and also tracking. Claiming to a lower total cost of ownership and a 69 per cent faster processing, Mr Pai said Oracle's data software application would be bundled with the Dell PowerEdge server under this alliance. "Dell and Oracle have long supported a low cost approach to enterprise computing. With a very large number of Oracle-on-Dell installations worldwide, we have clearly demonstrated success in delivering value to a wide range of customers, which we hope to continue in India," said Mr Shekhar Dasgupta, Managing Director, Oracle India. The two companies have extended this alliance to Asia-Pacific region in Malaysia, Australia and China. Dell also said it would invest more in the country and increase manpower. "We have a lot of sales and marketing people here in India including our call centres.". " As the business and market will be growing here, we will be raising headcount and resources in India. India is the fastest growing market for us in Asia Pacific and the third largest in terms of size after China and Japan," said Mr Paul Henri Ferrand, Vice-President and General Manager, South Asia, Dell.
