Hyderabad , Nov. 25

HCL Infosystems, manufacturer of personal computers in the country with a marketshare of about 14 per cent, has announced the launch of an innovative PC that addresses the major problem of power supply issue, particularly in the rural areas.

The RP2 system that comes with the entire range of HCL desktop PCs Infiniti Pro, Ezeebee, BusyBee and Beanstalk - - serves as an interface between a PC and a car battery, making it the first such computer range in the country that ensures uninterrupted PC performance in all environments.

Launching PCs with RP2 system, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HCL Infosystems, Mr Ajai Chowdhry, said: "Developed in-house by HCL Labs, RP2 systems provides continuous power for eight hours making HCL desktop PC range the only one to have this kind of unique advantage."

The system allows even connectivity from remote locations, particularly rural areas a possibility. This, coupled with the offer of PCs in the Rs 15,000 range with a monthly instalment of Rs 499, will make it attractive for a buyer.

"The overall PC reach has been hampered by relatively lower Internet penetration, which is estimated at about 6 million. Once such devices come into the market, small offices, schools, Government offices in remote areas, among others, would begin to use, thereby increasing the overall penetration across the country.

"The PC market is estimated at about 3.2 million pieces and we have accounted for about 4,00,000. As the price of entry-level PCs have gradually drifted lower to sub 15K, we expect this would add to numbers in a big way," he said.

The HCL Group recorded total turnover of $980 million last fiscal ended June 2004 and expects this to go up by 25-30 per cent this year. Last year, the group turnover increased by about 90 per cent, he said.
