Ire over GIC wage accord

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The General Insurance Officers All India Association (GIOAIA), Kerala unit, has expressed unhappiness over the proposals of the General Insurers Public Sector Association (GIPSA) on wage settlement during the discussions with the unions and associations recently.

The GIPSA, the management body of four PSU General Insurance Companies, has proposed to increase weekly working hours by four hours, besides to reduce the number of casual leave. It had also proposed to enforce a transfer and mobility policy for all classes.

Mr P.P. Mohanan, General Secretary of GIOAIA, Kerala unit, said the talks with the unions had failed, as the management "was not ready to increase its offer of 8.5 per cent".

The employees are "very much disappointed" as the present offer is less than that of the previous wage settlement. The last wage agreement was with 11.5 per cent increase, he added.
