Sensex down after strong opening

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 1

PROFIT-BOOKING took some of the sheen off the rising bourses today with the Sensex closing at 6,227.83, after a day of volatile trading.

The index lost over 96 points in intra-day volatility, but closed the gap to a loss of 6.46 points from Tuesday's close.

Market participants attribute the volatility to profit-booking at these record levels.

The Nifty closed marginally up, gaining 3.25 points to close at 1,962.05.

Technology stocks witnessed heavy profit-booking and BSETECk closed lower by 0.86 per cent.
