New Projects SAS Motors plans 2 more assembly lines for Angad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 8 SAS Motors, a low priced tractor manufacturer having managed to market a sub one-lakh model in collaboration with a Chinese major Shandong Shifang, is planning two more assembly lines - one in Hyderabad and the other in West Bengal. Addressing a press conference here to announce the launch of its tractor, priced at Rs 99,000 ex-showroom, in the Andhra Pradesh market here on Wednesday, the Managing Director of SAS Motors, Mr Ravindra Kumar, said that the company has sold over 100 units and has received orders for about 600 more in barely one month of rollout. The company currently has two assembly centres - in Maharashtra and UP. "We are in the process of strengthening the dealer network in both Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and expect to establish about 30 dealers in AP shortly. "The price of the sub one-lakh model tractor can be further brought down, if the Government provides some subsidy to farmers and also does away with higher emission norms, as is the case with even European Union. "In fact, the price can be actually brought down to about Rs 75,000 ex-showroom," he said. The Angad 240-D is a 22 horsepower tractor and is pegged at about less than half that of the cheapest tractor available in India. It is ironical that in a country where 70 per cent of the population is dependent on agriculture, a car costs lesser than a tractor. The Government needs to look at this from a larger perspective and make necessary changes, Mr Kumar said. The team Leader of Shandong Shifeng, Mr Yuan Lee, said that the Chinese company based in Guangdong province manufactures about 1.25 million vehicles a year employing about 30,000 people across seven manufacturing units in China. "The environment and conditions in China and India are similar and we expect our products to suit Indian conditions."
