FAPCCI plea on wage ceiling for ESI coverage

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) has asked the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) not to go ahead with the proposal of raising the wage ceiling from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000 for ESI coverage.

In a press release here on Monday, Mr O. P. Goenka, President of FAPCCI, said the proposal was not justified. "The employers and the trade unions are of the view that the ESIC proposal is ambitious," he said.

Not long ago, there were widespread protests when the corporation raised the ceiling from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000. Terming the move as "shocking to the employees and trade unions," he said the plan was to generate more funds rather than serving the insured.
