Arab Health woos Indian healthcare cos

Hyderabad , Dec. 20

ARAB Health, the Dubai-based organiser of healthcare industry expositions, has invited the Indian healthcare industry to take part in `Arab Health-2005', the region's premier health and medical exhibition and conference, and take a share in West Asia's $74-billion healthcare market.

Addressing newspersons here on Monday, the Arab Health Projects Manager, Mr Simon Page, said the expo had attracted 28 companies from the Indian subcontinent last year and hoped that the number of participants would increase significantly in the 2005 edition.

The four-day show begins on February 12.

The previous expo had 1,422 participants.

"We want to encourage greater co-operation between India's healthcare industry and West Asia's. The proximity of India to the region, the large number of non-resident Indians here and the value of the West Asian market are prime reasons for companies to invest," he said.

Buoyed by the success of Arab Healthcare-2004, the organisers expect the 2005 expo to attract at least 25 per cent more participants. Over 1,500 companies from 34 countries have already registered for the event, Mr Page said.

According to him, the global interest in the region's healthcare sector was being inflated by a number of major medical projects within West Asia, including Dubai Healthcare City and the International Medical Centre in Jeddah, an expanding population and the emergence of countries in the region as potential destinations for healthcare tourism.
