Rice TNCSC opens 43 paddy procurement centres in Nagapattinam Our Correspondent
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has opened 43 direct purchase centres for purchase of samba paddy in Nagapattinam. According to the District Collector, Mr Veera Shanmuga Moni, paddy with moisture content of 20 per cent is accepted with usual grade cut in price. A quintal of `A' grade variety is offered Rs 590 and the common variety at Rs 560 with moisture content up to 17 per cent. He further said that for paddy with more than 17 per cent, the government has fixed the rates as following: For grade `A' with moisture content with 17-18 per cent Rs 584; for moisture content with 18-19 per cent Rs 578; for moisture content with 19-20 per cent Rs 572. For the common variety, the offers for the similar moisture content are Rs 554.25, Rs 548.50 and Rs 543 respectively. During the last kuruvai season, despite the opening of 19 DPCs, not a single grain was procured owing to stiff Government regulations and farmers were forced to sell their paddy with more than 17 per cent moisture content to private traders at very low prices, sources said.
