Chennai , Dec. 24

TVS Electronics Ltd (TVS-E) has announced its entry into the telecom product support sector through its tie-up with $4-billion Chinese telecom major Huawei.

"We believe that this association has the potential to evolve and in the long-term, we might even be looking at manufacturing our terminals in India through TVS-E," Mr Liu Xiao Bin, Director, International Terminal Service, Huawei, said in a press release issued by TVS-E.

As per the agreement, TVS-E's Contract Customer Services (CCS) business group will provide carry-in repair services to Huawei's fixed wireless terminals across 110 TVS-E authorised service centre locations in the country.

TVS-E, the Chennai-based information technology peripherals firm, would provide end-to-end services to Huawei beginning from call centre support, field support, parts management and repair support at all the 110 locations and ensure fast turnaround of the defectives. This also includes the provision of software upgrades, accessories and board level swap, according to the release.

Huawei is a worldwide leader of telecom products currently supplying its products to large telecommunication companies in India. It employs 22,000 people across 50 countries.

As a next step, the CCS division aims to do component level repair of the defective boards at the Central Repair Centre at Chennai. The company is exploring opportunities to manufacture these terminals at its manufacturing facility in Chennai, says the press release.
