Infrastructure AP completes process for irrigation tenders Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 9 THE Andhra Pradesh Government has on Sunday announced that the process of inviting tenders for 156 packages of irrigation projects in different categories was completed. Addressing newspersons here, the State Major Irrigation Minister, Mr P. Lakshmaiah, said the Government invited tenders for 30 packages in category-I, consisting of projects worth Rs 100 crore and above, 116 packages in category-II, consisting of projects worth below Rs 50 crore, and 10 open tenders. According to the Minister, the total cost of the projects has been estimated at Rs 24,000 crore. Stating that 21 packages were before Court, he said the Government would abide by the verdict of the Court on the issue. Strongly opposing the regional feelings being created by certain people, he said the Rs 46,000-crore `Mahajala Yagnam' launched by the Government would cater to the irrigation needs of 65-lakh acres of land, of which 33-lakh acres would be in Telangana region. He said the proposed irrigation projects would also address the needs of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra. According to the Minister, the Government had taken up irrigation projects on a war footing.
