Chennai , Jan. 18 INDIASOFT 2005, an information technology-networking event, will provide a platform for small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to showcase their products and solutions. The event will be held here on March 21 and 22. It is being held outside Delhi for the first time, said Mr Nalin Kohli, Chairman, Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), which is organising the event. According to Mr Kohli, Indiasoft 2005 is dedicated to SMEs, and will focus on software and information technology-enabled services and IT financing. The event will create awareness about capabilities and core competence of Indian software and services industry and facilitate joint ventures, business tie-ups, collaboration and strategic alliances for outsourcing with overseas buyers, he said. Starting from 2001, Indiasoft events had generated business worth over $150 million, he said. Mr Madhavan Nambiar, Joint Secretary, Department of Information Technology, said that the software exports of Rs 58,000 crore constituted 2-3 per cent of the global market share. And, out of the total exports, around 50 companies held 90 per cent market share. "So far, Indian companies have focussed only on the US and the UK markets, and it is time to re-look at this market strategy", he said. According to Mr Nambiar, the Centre would work closely with SMEs to create more visibility for them in the global markets, and also enhance their technical skills. Indian firms need to improve their research and development, and India should become an R&D hub for high quality software, he said. More than 2,000 representatives and delegates from all over the world are expected to visit the event. ESC will be hosting credible international gathering of around 120 delegates from focus regions, including Latin America and Africa. The event will also attract around 1,000 IT professionals and about 10,000 business visitors from different segments of IT and other allied industries, says a press release.
