Human Resources Cross-industry migration, a big challenge for recruiters Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , Jan 23 THIS year, some of the biggest challenges for the recruitment industry in the country will be to address cross-industry migration by BPO employees and to convince software engineers to look at careers in mid-sized, US-based IT companies. Speaking to Business Line Mr Gautam Sinha, CEO, TVA Infotech, said, "There is a big churning happening in the BPO industry. Retention of employees even within the industry has become a problem as agents are looking at retail and telecom jobs." TVA Infotech is a Bangalore-based IT recruitment firm. Mr Sinha felt that the only way companies can address the attrition issue is by making students look up to it as a career option. His advice is to get role models to speak to students on campuses. He also foresees the entry of several mid-level US companies in India this year. "The cost advantage in moving to India has already been proven. Now these companies have faith in our talent too. Therefore, several $200 million-300 million companies will land in the country this year." With this, the IT industry manpower requirement will be in the range of 40,000 lateral hires and an equal number of freshers, according to him. "The challenge for recruiters will be to attract candidates and convince them to consider careers in these companies," he added. Recruitment companies, therefore, have to train their employees in sales skills. "Any recruiter who's not a salesperson will have difficulty in surviving in this business," he said.
