Pungent deal

Harvesting of pepper is in full swing in Kerala. Though the State Government has begun procuring pepper, prices continue to show a downward trend. The countrywide production this year is projected at 75,000 tonnes. High prices have kept overseas buyers away while the arrival of low-priced Sri Lankan pepper has prompted domestic buyers to wait and watch.
