Chennai , Jan. 28

SUNDAR Chemicals Pvt Ltd, a Rs 12-crore company based in Chennai, is set to launch a natural sugar substitute.

The product, named `Dezire' contains `Levulose', a natural sweetener present in some fruits. According to Mr K. Ramu, Chairman and Managing Director of Sundar Chemicals, levulose does not need insulin for its metabolism and hence can be used by people who have diabetes.

Addressing a press conference here today, Dr V. Seshiah, a diabetologist, said that research had proven that levulose intake does not increase blood sugar.

Dezire has been made available in 5 gm sachets and 250 gm packets.

The 250 gm packet is priced at around Rs 97.

Mr Ramu said that the company would launch an assortment of levulose-based Indian sweets - rasagulla, rasamalai and gulab jamun - under the brand name `Dezire'.

Sundar Chemicals is a company that manufactures nutraceuticals for both humans and animals.

It produces a range of vitamin and mineral formulations.

The company also proposes to introduce shortly a common salt product, which would contain vitamins, iron and zinc.
