`Offshore product development will be key differentiator'

Chennai , Jan. 30

IN addition to cost advantage, Indian companies also need to provide value addition to make global clients look at the country as a destination for offshore product development, according to Mr Gowri Subramanian, Chief Executive Officer, Aspire Systems.

Cost arbitrage alone would not be sustainable, he said at a panel discussion on `Offshore Product Development Application Services', an initiative by the National Association of Software and Service Companies Product Forum.

Most Indian companies rely on selling cost as the primary advantage. However, in the long run it is offshore product development that would be the key differentiator, said Mr Subramanian.

According to Ms Anjana Kaul, Chief Operating Officer, Aditi Technologies, companies focussing on offshore product development need to thoroughly understand the market in which they operate, understand their clients, users and competition.
