Hyderabad , Feb. 6 THE State Government proposes to finalise the tenders for 157 packages for various irrigation projects costing around Rs 17,000 crore by the month-end, the Minister for Major Irrigation, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, said on Sunday. Speaking to newspersons after a review meeting with the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Minister said that the process of finalisation would begin on February 14. Further, the Minister said, if the Supreme Court directions on the irrigation tenders are announced before the month-end, then the works to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore would be added, taking the total cost of the works to be executed to Rs 23,000 crore. According to him, the Chief Minister reviewed the departmental activities, especially the Government commitment to complete the irrigation projects in a fixed timeframe. A petition in the Supreme Court had delayed the Government's efforts to complete the tendering process, he added.
