Mixed trend in Kochi tea sale

A MIXED trend persisted in almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi auction. Though the leaf varieties witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for dust category.

The dust category witnessed only a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 9,40,000 kg. CTC's were easier by Rs 2 to Rs 4 and sometimes more. According to details made available by Forbes, Ewart & Figgis Pvt Ltd, Orthodox highgrown dusts were dearer by Rs 2-4, while mediums and secondaries were lower by Rs 3-4.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 58 and Rs 64, medium CTC realised Rs 52-57 and below medium realised Rs 37-45. Highgrown BOPF fetched prices between Rs 75 and Rs 106, while medium BOPD realised Rs 42-46. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 33.

The leaf sale witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 4,40,000 kg. Orthodox highgrown brokens, Fannings and whole leaf grades were fully firm to dearer by Rs 2-3. Medium brokens and whole leaf grades were steady to dearer by Rs 2. Good demand was witnessed from exporters to CIS and West Asian centres on Orthodox grades.
