Letters Poverty issues
This is with reference to the article "Is poverty the best policy" (Business Line, February 12). It is said that the author of yesteryear, Rudyard Kipling, while lecturing to the elite in a university, said that they would understand the poverty of their richness if they come across a person who, surviving barely with the basic necessities of his life, was happy and contented with life. The current day society judges the richness of a person by his ability to spend rather than to have minimum wants. This makes society run towards consumption rather than conservation of resources. S. Sundararaman, Bangalore
