Industrial Policy Industry & Economy - Entrepreneurship YSR hints at sops for women in industrial policy Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 15 THE upcoming industrial policy in Andhra Pradesh would have some attractive incentives for women entrepreneurs. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajsekhara Reddy, said the policy would be announced on April 1. Addressing a gathering of ALEAP (Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of Andhra Pradesh) here on Monday, he said women proved to be better managers provided they got some handholding. Earlier, he launched the EU-India Network of Women Entrepreneurs, taken up under the EU-India Small Projects Facility funded by the European Commission and Germany. The network was aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs in the food processing and garment sectors that offered huge opportunities for India. Ms Rama Devi, President of ALEAP, said the association would set up a trade centre, enabling its members to market the products manufactured by them. This centre would be called `Indira Priyadarshini Trade Centre'. The association was planning to develop another industrial estate for women in Visakhapatnam. "It has identified a place with tremendous potential," she said. Giving thrust to the apparel industry, ALEAP would set up a natural park near Rajendra Nagar (Hyderabad). She wanted the Government to increase the cash subsidy from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. She also asked the Government to set up exclusive industrial estates for women in all districts. The ALEAP President urged the Chief Minister to establish a one-stop-service to ensure a hassle-free access to the subsidy component. Referring to a suggestion made by Ms Rama Devi, the Chief Minister said preferential treatment in purchases was not possible in all areas. "We will see what best can be done," he said.
