Railways' freight traffic up at 492 mt

THE Indian Railways loaded a record 491.81 million tonnes (mt) of revenue-earning freight during the 10 months ended January 2005 against the target of 479.38 mt.

It also registered an incremental loading of 35.79 mt over the corresponding period of the previous year, when 456.02 mt freight traffic was carried, stated an official release.

The Railways is poised to exceed the current financial year's target of 580 mt, it said.

During January, a total of 53.45 mt of revenue freight was carried against 48.87 mt in the year-ago period.

The target of 51.19 mt for the month was exceeded by 2.26 mt, it added.
