New Delhi , Feb. 15

THE proposed modernisation of the two busiest airports in India - Delhi and Mumbai - could be delayed. The meeting of the e-Group of Ministers (e-GoM), which was held here on Tuesday to consider the request for proposals (RFP) for the modernisation programme, remained "inconclusive" and is to meet again shortly.

"Several issues were discussed but due to lack of time the meeting remained inconclusive. The RFP was discussed. We shall meet again shortly," the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, told newspersons after the 90-minute meeting.

He, however, refused to specify on the issues that were taken up at the meeting. "There will be no delay in the proposed modernisation programme," Mr Patel said when asked whether the failure to finalise the RFP document would delay the project.

It is only after the RFP has been cleared by the e-GoM that it would be given to the nine bidders shortlisted for the modernisation programme.

Earlier, speaking on the sidelines of the Aero India, air show in Bangalore, he said that the joint venture partner for modernisation and restructuring of the two airports would be finalised this year itself.

After this, within 12 weeks, financial and technical bids will be called for and decided, he added.

The nine entities shortlisted include Reliance, GMR, DLF, Bharti and L&T.

The, Left Parties, which are supporting the Government have already opposed the move to privatise the two metro airports.
