Oilseeds & Edible Oil Workshop on marketing of soya products in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 17 THE average consumption of dairy products in Andhra Pradesh is 198 ml/ day, which is lower than the national average of 250 ml/day. In the production of soyabean, Andhra Pradesh is the fourth largest in the country with about 70,000 tonnes per year. Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are the major producers of the total 5-7 million tonnes of beans produced in a normal year. In Andhra Pradesh, soyabean is predominantly grown in Adilabad district. In the last two years, more districts have started growing. It is being used in the feeding programmes. To promote market driven opportunities, APITCO is organising a workshop on `Soya based food industry', here on Friday, in association with the American Soybean Association (ASA), a non-profit organisation of US soyabean farmers and industry. The APITCO survey shows a good marketing potential for soyabean food products in the State. Soya food products such as soymilk, tofu and nuts are economical. Similarly, a good number of residential schools, medical facilities, institutes and a number of State-run schemes are potential consumers, it said in a press release.
