Australian envoy calls for better ties in education sector

Our Bureau

Chennai , Feb. 17

NEW business-level partnerships need to be developed between Australian universities and Indian centres of excellence, according to Mr John McCarthy, High Commissioner of Australia.

There is enormous opportunity for both countries to use each other's expertise in education sector, he told members of Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce.

India is now recognised in Australia as a major partner to deal with at business and strategic levels. In future, India has the potential to become the world's third biggest economy.

Over a longer term, India could be better than China. There is something happening here that is different and goes beyond past talk of Indian renaissance. It is real, he said.
