AAI to spend Rs 104 cr for developing airports in South

THE Airports Authority of India (AAI), Southern Region, is spending Rs 104 crore during the current financial year for infrastructure development at airports under its jurisdiction.

Mr S.K. Saraswati, AAI Regional Executive Director, Chennai — who was in Mangalore on Saturday to deliver the valedictory address at the legal awareness programme, jointly organised by District Legal Services Authority, AAI, and Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College - said that AAI has taken up infrastructure development at Mysore, Hubli and Mangalore in Karnataka.

Mysore airport is being developed following a proposal by the State Government in this regard. The airport at Hubli, which was abandoned, has been commissioned. It will also be expanded, he said. Twenty-six airports come under the jurisdiction of southern region.

Later in an informal chat with Business Line, he said that AAI is spending Rs 12 crore for infrastructure development at Mangalore airport this year. A new runway of 8,000-ft length is being constructed at the airport.
