Supply Chain Management Industry & Economy - Excise and Customs Concor Coimbatore ICD venue is Customs notified G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , Feb. 23 THE Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has declared Irugur village near Coimbatore, where the Container Corporation of India (Concor) is setting up a new inland container terminal complex, a Customs notified area. CBEC has issued a notification under Section 7 of the Customs Act declaring Irugur as the Customs notified area for Concor to locate its new inland container terminal for export and import operations. The notification was issued last week. CBEC's formal clearance comes as a shot in the arm for Concor, which is setting up its own container complex project at Irugur. Estimated to cost Rs 2 crore in the first phase, the Irugur complex will be operational by March-end or early April. Once the construction of the new terminal complex is completed, Concor will shift its present works from the Goods Shed road in the city to the Irugur complex, which is being developed on a 42-acre site situated close to the National Highway No.47 (Kochi-Salem sector). According to official sources here, Concor is also likely to get the formal nod from the local Customs authority for handling the container terminal. Concor proposes to develop Irugur as an integrated container terminal with rail-cum-road linkage.
