Mangalore , Feb. 27

THE Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Karnataka Government to build a road from Maravoor Bridge, near Mangalore airport, to the proposed second terminal building at the airport.

In a letter to the Karnataka Industries Minister, Mr P.G.R. Sindhia, KCCI has said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to build another terminal near the new runway. The proposed terminal will bring down the distance between the airport and Mangalore city by eight km. Construction of a new terminal will not help, if there is no approach road to it. In this regard, it is essential for the Government to declare the construction of a four-lane road between Maravoor Bridge and the proposed terminal site, the letter said. Air traffic between Mangalore and other centres is likely to increase with the completion of work on the second runaway at the airport. In such a situation, it is essential to have all basic facilities, including a proper road to the proposed terminal, it added.
